I do road course work (banging down from 5'th straight into 2'nd at the end of most straights), so I grasp the shifter like is a broom handle from the side with my thumb upwards, while some guys do strip work of just ripping through the gears up one at a time, and they grasps the shifter palm on ... Every shifter for the C5/C6 is nothing but a straight stick that is inserted in a hole that is in the shifter block that gets fastened in the tunnel. C6 Corvette ZR1 & Z06 - MGW Shifter Play - Just installed the MGW shifter last night and on my test drive to work this morning, I noticed there was quite a bit of play once in gear. Like, the top of the knob would swing .75 of an inch in either direction (1.5~ of play total) once in gear. I guess they are getting complaints from Z06 owners about buzzing/rattling with the OEM shifter (I was not getting any until I put in the MGW) and the solution is to go with the C6 shifter box. I also heard that the 2010 Z comes with the standard C6 box.
